Frequently Asked Questions
Are Botulin Toxin Injections and dermal fillers safe?
Botolin Toxin A injections are FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved. The FDA are are a regulatory agency responsible for protecting public health. The fillers Michele uses are also approved by the FDA and CE marked (this signifies that they meet high health and safety standards). The fillers used at Orchard Aesthetics are hyaluronic acid based fillers. These types of fillers can be dissolved if necessary. Botulin toxin A injections and dermal fillers are usually safe when administered by a qualified health care professional that has been trained in aesthetics.
How do they work?
Botulin toxin works by blocking certain chemical signals from the nerves that cause the muscles to contract. This causes the muscles to relax reducing wrinkles and lines. This does not work immediately but can take up to two weeks to see the full results. This is a temporary effect lasting typically from three to four months.
Dermal fillers are a gel like product that can be used to restore volume and smooth the lines caused by ageing. Results are immediate and can last from months to years dependent on the product used.
Does it hurt?
The needles used to administer botulin toxin A are very small fine needles. Some people experience little to no pain. Some people describe a slight stinging or pinching type pain.
Dermal fillers can be administered via small injections or via a cannula depending on the area to be treated. The dermal filler has lidocaine added to it which is a local anaesthetic to make the treatment more comfortable.
If you are worried about this a numbing gel can be applied to the treatment area. Please ask about this during the consultation and it can be discussed.
